Shawnee, Oklahoma, is a city located in the east-central part of the state, approximately 35 miles east of Oklahoma City. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Shawnee was founded in 1891 as a land run town and has a rich history and heritage, including being the former capital of the Chickasaw Nation.
