Serov, formerly known as Nadezhdinsk, is a city in the Sverdlovsk Oblast of Russia, located on the Kakva River at the eastern foothills of the Ural Mountains. The city has a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, rainy summers. Serov was founded in 1893 as a settlement around an ironworks and was granted city status in 1926. It is named after the Soviet revolutionary Aleksandr Serov, who was born in the city.
