Schmidgaden is a municipality in the district of Schwandorf in Bavaria, Germany. It is located in the Upper Palatinate region, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Schwandorf and 40 kilometers east of Amberg. The municipality has a population of around 2,800 inhabitants and covers an area of 24.56 square kilometers. The average temperature in Schmidgaden is 8.5 degrees Celsius, with an average annual precipitation of 700 millimeters. The municipality was first mentioned in 1125 and has a rich history, including a period of rule by the Counts of Ortenburg and the Counts of Hohenfels.
