The community is situated at the junction of the Northeast Corridor and the Port Reading Secondary lines of the North Jersey Coast Line, and is served by the Sayreville station. The area has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The community was originally known as Morgan and was renamed Sayreville Junction in 1872 after the nearby town of Sayreville. The area has a rich history and heritage, with many historic buildings and sites located in the community, including the Sayreville Junction Railroad Station, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
