Sant'Oreste is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio, central Italy. Located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of Rome, it is situated on a hill overlooking the Tiber valley. The town has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Sant'Oreste has a rich history, dating back to the ancient Etruscan period. It was later a Roman colony and was known as Capena. In the Middle Ages, it was a fief of the Orsini family. Sant'Oreste is home to a number of historical monuments, including the remains of an Etruscan city, a Roman amphitheatre, and a medieval castle.
