Sanandaj, formerly known as Senna, is the capital city of Kordestān Province, Iran. It is situated in the Zagros Mountains, at an altitude of 1,370 meters (4,495 feet). The city has a cold, semi-arid climate, with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Sanandaj has a rich history and heritage, dating back to the Median Empire. The city was once a major center of the Kurdish principality of Ardalan, and it remains a cultural center for the Kurdish people today.
