San Luis Potosí, known locally as San Luis, is the capital of the state of the same name in central Mexico. Located at an altitude of 1,860 meters (6,100 feet) above sea level, it has a humid subtropical climate with average temperatures ranging from 13°C (55°F) in January to 27°C (81°F) in May. The city was founded in 1592 by Spanish conquistadors and played a significant role in the Mexican War of Independence and the Mexican Revolution.
