The municipality was founded in 1856 and named after Saint Isidore the Laborer, the patron saint of farmers. San Isidro is known for its agricultural heritage, particularly in rice farming, and is also home to several historical landmarks, including the San Isidro Parish Church and the Municipal Hall, which are both listed as heritage sites by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
