Sam Rayburn, Texas, United States is a city located in the central part of the state, at the intersection of State Highway 147 and Farm to Market Road 1895. It has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city was founded in 1873 as a stop on the Texas and Pacific Railway and was named after Sam Rayburn, a prominent Texas politician who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1940 to 1947 and 1949 to 1953.
