Salida, California is a small town located in Stanislaus County, California, United States. It is situated in the San Joaquin Valley, about 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Modesto. The town has a population of about 13,000 people and is known for its agriculture, particularly its almond and walnut groves. Salida was founded in 1870 by a group of farmers and ranchers. The town's name is Spanish for "exit" or "outlet", and it was chosen because the town was located at the end of a stagecoach line. Salida has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The town is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Salida Schoolhouse, which was built in 1882 and is now a museum.
