It was once home to a Benedictine abbey, which was founded in 560. The abbey was destroyed by the Vikings in the 9th century, but it was later rebuilt. The town was also the site of a battle between the French and the English in 1429. Today, Saint-Jean-de-Braye is a thriving town with a population of over 20,000 people. It is home to a number of historical sites, including the ruins of the Benedictine abbey and the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
