Saint James is a hamlet in the Town of Smithtown in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island, at the head of the Nissequogue River, about 50 miles (80 km) east of Manhattan. The area was originally inhabited by the Matinecock Native Americans, and was later settled by English colonists in the 17th century. The hamlet was named after Saint James the Greater, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. Saint James has a population of about 13,000 people and is known for its beautiful scenery, historic homes, and excellent schools. The weather in Saint James is temperate, with warm summers and cool winters.
