Royal City was founded in 1903 as a railroad town and named after the Royal Fruit Company, which had a packing plant in the area. The city's economy is primarily based on agriculture, with major crops including apples, cherries, and pears. Royal City also has a strong Hispanic heritage, with a large percentage of the population being of Mexican descent.
