Ronceverte is a city in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, United States. It is located at the confluence of the Greenbrier and New Rivers, at the eastern edge of the Allegheny Mountains. The city has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Ronceverte was founded in 1774 by Colonel John Lewis, and was named after his friend, Colonel William Ronceverte. The city was a major stop on the James River and Kanawha Turnpike, and was a center of trade and commerce in the 19th century. Ronceverte is home to the Greenbrier Valley Theatre, the oldest professional summer theatre in the United States.
