Rio de Mouro is a civil parish in the municipality of Sintra, Lisbon District, Portugal, with an area of 3.86 km2 and a population of 49,309. The parish is located 15 km northwest of Lisbon, in the western part of the municipality of Sintra, and is bordered by the parishes of Queluz to the south, Belas to the east, Massamá to the northeast, and Agualva-Cacém to the west. The parish is named after the Rio de Mouro, a small river that flows through the parish. The climate of Rio de Mouro is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers. The average temperature in January is 10.1 °C (50.2 °F), and the average temperature in July is 22.7 °C (72.9 °F). The average annual precipitation is 762 mm (30.0 in). The history of Rio de Mouro dates back to the Roman period, when it was known as Villa Euracini. The parish was first mentioned in a document from 1173, and it became a municipality in 1515. In 1886, the municipality of Rio de Mouro was merged into the municipality of Sintra. The parish of Rio de Mouro is home to a number of historical and cultural landmarks, including the Church of Rio de Mouro, the Palace of Rio de Mouro, and the Museum of Rio de Mouro.
