Rimavská Sobota, a city in southern Slovakia's Banskobystrický Region, is situated at the confluence of the Rimava and Blh rivers, approximately 20 kilometers north of the Hungarian border. The city has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Rimavská Sobota was first mentioned in 1271 and has a rich history, having been ruled by the Kingdom of Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Czechoslovakia before becoming part of Slovakia in 1993. The city is known for its historic buildings, including the Renaissance-era castle, and its cultural heritage, including the annual Rimavská Sobota Folklore Festival.
