Richelieu, Centre, France is a town located in the Indre-et-Loire department of central France. It is situated on the banks of the Vienne River, about 20 kilometers southwest of Tours. The town has a temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers. Richelieu was founded in the 17th century by Cardinal Richelieu, who was the chief minister of France during the reign of Louis XIII. The town was designed by the architect Jacques Lemercier and is considered to be one of the finest examples of French Renaissance architecture.
