Rēzekne is a city in southeastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Rēzekne River. It is the capital of Rēzeknes Rajons and has a population of around 30,000 people. The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Rēzekne was first mentioned in historical records in 1285 and was granted city rights in 1773. It has a rich history and heritage, having been part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian Empire, and the Soviet Union before becoming part of independent Latvia in 1991.
