Remsen, Iowa, is a small town in Plymouth County with a population of 1,663 as of the 2020 census. It is located in northwestern Iowa, about 25 miles northwest of Sioux City. The town was founded in 1872 by a group of German immigrants and is named after Henry J. Remsen, a railroad executive. Remsen has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The town is home to several historic buildings, including the Remsen St. Mary's Catholic Church, which was built in 1882.
