Reichsthal is a municipality in the Kusel district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is located at an elevation of 340 meters (1,115 feet) above sea level, and its coordinates are 49.6000000 latitude and 7.7333300 longitude. The municipality has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Verbandsgemeinde of Lauterecken-Wolfstein. The average temperature in Reichsthal is 9.5 degrees Celsius (49.1 degrees Fahrenheit), and the average annual precipitation is 700 millimeters (27.6 inches). The municipality was first mentioned in a document in 1285, and it was originally part of the County of Veldenz. In 1444, Reichsthal was acquired by the Counts of Sponheim, and in 1559, it became part of the Duchy of Zweibrücken. In 1794, Reichsthal was occupied by French troops, and in 1815, it became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria. In 1946, Reichsthal became part of the newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The municipality is home to a number of historical buildings, including the Evangelical Church, which was built in 1751, and the Catholic Church, which was built in 1894. Reichsthal is also home to a number of cultural events, including the Reichsthal Music Festival, which is held every year in July.
