The town was first mentioned in a document in 1102. In the 13th century, Reichenbach an der Fils was granted town rights by the Count of Württemberg. The town was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War and the Napoleonic Wars. In the 19th century, Reichenbach an der Fils became a center of the textile industry. The town is home to several historical buildings, including the town hall, the church, and the castle.
