The climate is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 0°C (32°F) in January to 18°C (64°F) in July. The municipality has a long history, dating back to the Middle Ages. The first documented mention of Rattelsdorf was in 1209. The municipality is home to a number of historical buildings, including the Church of St. Bartholomew, which was built in the 13th century.
