Rainier, Washington, is a city located in Thurston County, in the southern part of Puget Sound, approximately 10 miles south of Olympia. The city has a humid subtropical climate with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The city was founded in 1850 by Levi Shelton and was named after Mount Rainier, which is located approximately 35 miles east of the city. Rainier is home to several parks and recreation areas, including Rainier Vista Park, which offers stunning views of Mount Rainier.
