Qal‘at al Maḑīq, also known as Kal'at al Madik, is a medieval castle situated in Hama, Syria, near the village of al-Madiq, 23 kilometers northwest of Hama city. The castle is located on a high hill overlooking the Orontes River and the surrounding countryside. The weather in the area is characterized by hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Qal‘at al Maḑīq has a rich history, dating back to the 11th century when it was built by the Seljuk Turks. The castle has been besieged and captured numerous times throughout its history, and it has been used as a fortress, a prison, and a military outpost. The castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most important examples of medieval Islamic architecture in Syria.
