Progreso, also known as Ingeniero Eduardo Garcia de Zuniga, is a city in the Canelones department of Uruguay, located on the southern coast at latitude -34.6650000 and longitude -56.2194400. The city has a humid subtropical climate with average temperatures ranging from 12°C to 23°C throughout the year. Progreso was founded in 1871 as a railway station and named after the chief engineer of the Central Uruguay Railway, Eduardo Garcia de Zuniga. It has a rich cultural heritage, with many historic buildings and monuments, including the Parish Church of Progreso, built in 1890.
