Portville, New York, is a village in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. It is located in the southern part of the county, approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Olean, the county seat. The village is situated on the Allegheny River, which forms the border between New York and Pennsylvania. The climate in Portville is humid continental, with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The village was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. It was originally known as Portville, but the name was changed to Portville in 1851. The village is home to a number of historical sites, including the Portville Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
