Port Lavaca, Texas, is a city located on the Gulf of Mexico in Calhoun County. It has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city was founded in 1836 by Mexican colonists and was originally known as La Bahía de la Vaca (Cow Bay). It became a major port for cotton and other agricultural products in the 19th century.
