Pliego, Murcia, Spain, is a municipality located in the Region of Murcia, in southeastern Spain. The municipality is situated in the Vega Alta del Segura region, in the northwest of the province, at an altitude of 80 meters above sea level. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Pliego has a rich history and heritage, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Bronze Age. The town was founded by the Romans in the 1st century BC, and was later ruled by the Moors from the 8th to the 13th centuries. In the 13th century, Pliego was reconquered by the Christians, and became part of the Kingdom of Murcia. The town has a number of historical landmarks, including the Church of Santa María la Mayor, which was built in the 16th century, and the Castle of Pliego, which was built in the 14th century.
