The town is part of the Baltimore metropolitan area and is located approximately 10 miles northwest of Baltimore City. The climate is humid subtropical with hot, humid summers and cool, wet winters. The town was founded in the early 19th century and was originally known as "Pleasantville." The name was changed to "Pleasant Hills" in the early 20th century. The town is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Pleasant Hills Methodist Church, which was built in 1840.
