It is situated about 25 miles southeast of Kansas City, Missouri. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Pleasant Hill was founded in 1822 by a group of settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The city was named after the nearby Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Pleasant Hill is home to several historic sites, including the Pleasant Hill Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city also has a strong arts and culture scene, with several art galleries, museums, and theaters.
