Plandome is a village in the town of North Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, United States. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately 20 miles east of Manhattan. The village has a population of about 1,300 people and is known for its large homes and waterfront properties. The weather in Plandome is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The village was founded in 1655 by Dutch settlers and was originally known as "Flatlands". The name "Plandome" is derived from the Algonquian word "planadomuck", which means "place of the sloping land".
