Pietravairano is a comune in the province of Caserta in the Campania region of southern Italy. The town is located in the northern part of the province, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) northeast of Caserta and 60 kilometers (37 miles) north of Naples. The climate of Pietravairano is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The town has a long history, dating back to the Roman era. It was first mentioned in the 10th century as "Petra Vairani", and it was later ruled by the Lombards, Normans, and Aragonese. In the 19th century, Pietravairano was part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, and it became part of Italy in 1861. The town is home to several historical sites, including the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which was built in the 13th century, and the Castle of Pietravairano, which was built in the 14th century.
