The town is situated at the intersection of State Route 48 and County Route 57, approximately 10 miles northwest of the city of Oswego. The town has a humid continental climate, with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Phoenix was first settled in the early 19th century, and was named after the mythical bird that was said to rise from its own ashes. The town has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic buildings, including the Phoenix Academy and the Phoenix Methodist Church.
