Phippsburg is a town in Sagadahoc County, Maine, United States. It is located on the western shore of the Kennebec River, about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Bath. The town was first settled in 1625 by English colonists and was originally known as Sagadahoc. It was renamed Phippsburg in 1762 in honor of Sir William Phipps, the governor of Massachusetts. The town has a population of 2,213 (2020 census) and a total area of 30.22 square miles (78.27 km2). The climate is humid continental, with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers.
