Philo has a humid continental climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The village was founded in 1854 by a group of Quaker settlers and was named after Philo Carpenter, a prominent abolitionist and peace activist. Philo has a rich heritage and is home to several historic buildings, including the Philo Friends Meetinghouse, which was built in 1856 and is still in use today.
