It was founded in 1683 by Scottish settlers and named after the Earl of Perth, the Lord Chancellor of Scotland. Perth Amboy has a rich history and heritage, having served as the capital of New Jersey from 1790 to 1792 and being home to numerous historical landmarks, including the Proprietary House and the Kearny Cottage.
