The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. Park Falls was founded in 1875 as a logging camp and was incorporated as a city in 1893. The city's heritage is closely tied to the logging industry, and it is home to the Park Falls Lumberjack World Championships, held annually since 1953.
