Oßling is a municipality in the district of Bautzen, in Saxony, Germany. It is located in the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape, about 15 km (9 mi) north of Bautzen. The average temperature in Oßling is 8.5 °C (47.3 °F), and the average annual precipitation is 620 mm (24 in). Oßling was first mentioned in 1222 as "Ozle". The name is of Slavic origin and means "place of the aspens". In the 14th century, Oßling became part of the Margraviate of Meissen. In 1635, during the Thirty Years' War, Oßling was burned down by Swedish troops. In the 18th century, Oßling became part of the Kingdom of Saxony. In 1871, Oßling became part of the German Empire. In 1949, Oßling became part of the German Democratic Republic. In 1990, Oßling became part of the reunified Germany.
