It is situated at the intersection of State Highway 19 and State Highway 146, approximately 12 miles north of Livingston, the county seat. The town was founded in 1881 and named after the Onalaska tribe of Native Americans who lived in the area. The climate in Onalaska is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters.
