Olyphant is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, located at 41.4684100 latitude and -75.6029700 longitude. The borough is situated in the Lackawanna Valley, approximately 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Scranton. Olyphant has a humid continental climate, with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The borough was founded in 1851 by George W. Scranton and was named after his business partner, John Olyphant. Olyphant was a major center of the anthracite coal industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and many of the borough's historic buildings date from this period. Today, Olyphant is a residential community with a diverse population.
