Ogre, Latvia, is a town located on the Daugava River, 36 kilometers southeast of Riga. It is the administrative center of Ogre Municipality and has a population of around 25,000 people. The climate in Ogre is humid continental, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. The town was first mentioned in historical records in 1206 and has a rich history, having been part of the Livonian Order, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian Empire, and the Soviet Union before becoming part of independent Latvia in 1991. Ogre is home to several historical and cultural landmarks, including the Ogre Castle, the Ogre Museum, and the Ogre Art School.
