Ogdensburg, New Jersey, is a town in Sussex County with a population of 2,549 as of 2010. It is located in the northwestern part of the state, near the border with Pennsylvania. The town was founded in 1756 by a group of settlers from Massachusetts. It was originally known as "Swartswood" after the Swartswood River that flows through the town. The town was renamed "Ogdensburg" in 1830 after Ogden Hoffman, a prominent New Jersey politician. The town is home to the Ogdensburg Mine, which was once one of the largest iron mines in the United States. The mine closed in 1956, but the town still retains its mining heritage. The town is also home to the Ogdensburg Reservoir, which is a popular recreation area. The climate of Ogdensburg is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters.
