Oboyan' is a town in Kursk Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Psiol and Tuskar rivers, 51°13′N 36°16′E. The town has a population of 13,555 (2010 Census). The climate is humid continental, with average temperatures ranging from −10 °C (14 °F) in January to +20 °C (68 °F) in July. Oboyan' was first mentioned in 1639 as a fortress on the southern border of the Russian state. The town played an important role in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774, and was awarded the Order of Saint George for its bravery. Oboyan' is home to several historical and cultural landmarks, including the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin (1780), the Church of the Intercession (1803), and the Oboyan' Historical Museum.
