It is located in the northwestern part of the country, in the Someș River valley, at an altitude of 250 m (820 ft). The commune is composed of four villages: Băbiu, Bădăcin, Fodora, and Nuşfalău. The commune has a rich history and heritage, dating back to the Middle Ages. The first written mention of Nuşfalău dates back to 1291, when it was mentioned as a possession of the Hungarian king. The commune was part of the Principality of Transylvania until 1541, when it became part of the Ottoman Empire. Nuşfalău was liberated from Ottoman rule in 1699, and became part of the Habsburg Empire. The commune remained part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918, when it became part of Romania.
