Novovolyns'k is a city in the Volyn Oblast (province) of western Ukraine, located approximately 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of the oblast capital, Lutsk. It is situated in the northwestern part of the oblast, close to the border with Poland. The city has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Novovolyns'k was founded in 1950 as a mining town to exploit the nearby coal deposits. It was granted city status in 1957. The city's main industry is coal mining, and it is also home to a number of other industries, including food processing, light manufacturing, and construction. Novovolyns'k has a rich cultural heritage, with a number of historical and architectural landmarks, including the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Museum of Local Lore.
