Nové Strašecí, also known as Neustraschitz, is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It is situated at an altitude of 350 meters (1,148 feet) above sea level, in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area, on the Rakovnický potok stream. The town has a population of approximately 5,500 people. The average temperature in Nové Strašecí is 8.6 °C (47.5 °F), and the average annual precipitation is 630 mm (24.8 in). The town was first mentioned in written records in 1318, and it received town rights in 1405. Nové Strašecí is home to a number of historical monuments, including the Church of St. Wenceslas, the town hall, and the former Augustinian monastery.
