North Amherst, Massachusetts is a small, unincorporated village located in the town of Amherst, about 3 miles north of the town center. It has a population of approximately 6,000 people. The weather in North Amherst is typical of the region, with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. The area was first settled by Europeans in the 17th century, and was originally part of the town of Hadley. In 1759, it was incorporated as the town of Amherst, and North Amherst remained a part of Amherst until 1810, when it was separated and incorporated as its own town. In 1959, North Amherst was reincorporated as a village within the town of Amherst.
