New Town, North Dakota, is a small town located in Mountrail County, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and North Dakota Highway 23. The town has a population of around 1,300 people and is home to the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation. The weather in New Town is typical of the northern Great Plains, with cold winters and hot summers. The town was founded in 1872 as a trading post for the Three Affiliated Tribes. It was originally called Fort Berthold, but the name was changed to New Town in 1906.
