New Castle, Virginia is a town located in Craig County, Virginia, United States. The town is situated at an elevation of 1,200 feet (370 m) above sea level and has a population of 1,215 people. The town is located in the Appalachian Mountains and has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cool, dry winters. The town was founded in 1786 and was originally known as Crab Orchard. The town was renamed New Castle in 1832. The town is home to the New Castle Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
