New Cassel is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, New York, United States. It is located on Long Island, approximately 20 miles east of Manhattan. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The area was originally inhabited by the Matinecock Native Americans. In the 17th century, it was settled by Dutch and English colonists. The name "New Cassel" is derived from the Dutch word "kassel," meaning "castle."
